BULGARIA - A LAND OF RICH CULTURAL TRADITIONS Bulgaria is a small country in Southeastern Europe on the Balkan Peninsula. It borders to the north with Romania, as the border follows along the Danube River and crosses the fertile area of Dobrudzha. To the south it borders with Turkey and Greece, to the west — with Serbia and Macedonia. Its eastern border is the Black Sea. The territory of Bulgaria is approximately 110,000 square kilometers, and its population - about 8,000,000 people. Placed on the vital crossroads between Europe and Asia, Bulgaria has a rich and diverse natural environment and favorable climate features. Its territory has been populated since ancient times. It is evidenced by the numerous archeological finds dating back from the period of ancient history, about 1.5 million of years ago. The extremely rich Necropolis of Varna dates back from the stone-copper times. The gold bowls of Valchitran date back from the 15th c. B.C.
