Prof. Nickolay D. Ovcharov, D.Habil. was born in 1957 in the medieval Bulgarian capital of Veliko Turnovo. In 1981 he graduated from St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia. He has participated in hundreds of scholarly forums, archaeological expeditions and explorations from Gibraltar to the Caucasus and from Baltica to Malta. He is the author of 11 monographs and about 200 scholarly articles, published in Bulgaria, the USA, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Malta, Greece, Poland, Yugoslavia, Macedonia, Moldova, Georgia, the Czech Republic and Russia. He is a scholarly adviser for the most famous Bulgarian archaeological sites - the palace of Tsar Simeon in Veliki Preslav and the ancient town of Perperikon in the Eastern Rhodopes. He was nominated for "Personality of 1998" by the American Biographic Institute in the state of North Carolina and since 1999 he has been a member of the Research Board of the same institute.
