Музиковедите в престижната изследователска група се занимават с анализа на музикалнокултурното многообразие на съвременния свят и преди две години проведоха световната среща в България, в морската ни столица. През 2006 г. Варна се превърна в център на пъстрата музикална етническа палитра. Тогава симпозиумът се организира от Институт за изкуствознание под егидата на Българската академия на науките. Това е сборникът от отминалото събитие. Луксозното англоезично издание на Институт за изкуствознание е със заглавие “Тhe Human World and Musical Diversity”. В кратки резюмета на български език в края на сборника са поместени текстовете от конференцията на участниците в нея. Изданието е и богато илюстровано и с анотации на български. Introduction Bulgaria`s opening up to the world during the era of globalization has had many dimensions. One result of this new openness has been the establishment of the discipline of ethnomusicology (the study of the musics of the world, or of others) on equal footing with the country`s traditional discipline of musical folkloristics (the study of music considered to be one`s own). The participation of Bulgarian ethnomusicologists in the ICTM Study Group for Music and Minorities and especially in the biennial meetings of the study group has acted as a powerful catalyst in this respect. Since Bulgarians have a particular love of inviting guests into their homes, we decided that one of these meetings should take place in Bulgaria as soon as possible. And indeed, such a meeting did take place in August 2006 in the city of Varna, Bulgaria`s maritime capital (the ancient Odessos). Our goal - which we think was reached at least to some degree - was to offer our fellow ethnomusicologists the opportunity to discover the great potential for collaboration in Bulgaria, which remains one of the least-known countries in Eastern Europe.
